Summer Reading
My Top Picks for Summer:
1) "Eat, Pray, Love" (One Woman's Search for Everything Acroos Italy, India, and Indonesia) by Elizabeth Gilbert - I laughed, I cried, I loved this book
2) "A Long Way Gone" by Ishmael Beah - Very Touching - This book will break your heart and if you don't finish it feeling compelled to do something to take action, to be heard, to make a difference, then you never will.
3) "Reading Lolita in Tehran - A Memoir in Books" by Azar Nafisi - One woman's account of living under the Ayatollah Khomeini's regime and the effects of the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. I found this book very insightful, having been very young at the time and not being taught Iranian history in school, I knew little about how Iran became as it is today.
4) "House of Sand and Fog" by Andre Dubus - Having seen the movie, I wanted to read the book. An Iranian immigrant's experience trying to make a living in the United States contrasted with a young woman's experience having fallen on hard times - both cross paths through the house she is evicted from that he purchases. Excellent!
5)"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" by J K Rowling - Go get this book. Get all 7 - Read them. Need I say more?
6) "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini. I actually read this last year. Incredibly moving, couldn't put it down. Now I'm off to buy "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by same author...
